Root-Cause Healing: Why God Cares About More Than Symptoms

Is God ignoring your pain? Learn why root-cause healing involves more than just physical relief—it’s about how He forms your soul in the middle of the fire.

Root-Cause Healing: Why God Cares About More Than Symptoms

When you are exhausted and drowning in a sea of lab results, it is easy to view physical relief as the only successful outcome. But what if God is interested in a much deeper work than simply fixing your biology? In this episode, I share the hard-won lessons from my own seasons of infertility and professional burnout to help you see how root-cause healing and spiritual formation go hand in hand.

Redefining the Goal of Your Healing Journey

We are often handed a cultural script that says health is the finish line and anything less is failure. In the world of wellness, we call it a successful protocol; in some church circles, we call it "having enough faith." But both scripts can be crushing because they leave no room for the holy work God does in the middle of the mess.

Root-cause healing is about more than just clearing pathogens or balancing hormones. It is about the person you are becoming while you wait for those things to happen. God isn't less interested in your physical recovery than you are—He is actually more interested in it—but He refuses to let the season be only about your symptoms.

🎙️ "God cares about two things at once: the outcome you're asking for and the person you are becoming on the way to it."

The Difference Between Punishment and Refinement

It is easy to feel abandoned when your body isn't cooperating. However, there is a profound difference between being punished and being refined. Punishment leaves you feeling smaller, more ashamed, and fearful of God. Refinement, while uncomfortable, eventually leaves you freer and more rooted in your identity in Christ.

In my own life, I spent years begging for a baby. God didn't give me the answer I wanted for a long time, not because He was withholding, but because He was forming me. He was uprooting the lie that my worth was tied to my productivity or my ability to produce an outcome.

Lessons from the In-Between

  • Identity over Utility: You are a daughter of God before you are "useful" to His kingdom.
  • Open-Handed Desire: Learning to want something deeply while trusting the One who hasn't granted it yet.
  • Sustainability over Striving: Realizing that we cannot be the source of a life that only God can sustain.

Why Your Soul Capacity Matters for Your Body

Many healing plans fail not because the supplements are wrong, but because the foundation is built on striving and fear. When we treat our bodies like machines that just need the right "code" to work, we miss the invitation to intimacy with the Father.

God didn't just feed the Israelites; He taught them dependence. He didn't just raise Lazarus; He waited so the people could see His glory. He is a God who works in the delays. If your healing season is making you more honest and more in love with Him, then He hasn't forgotten about your body—He is simply caring for the whole of you.

A Simple Step for This Week

If you find yourself arguing with God about the timing of your recovery, I want to invite you to change the question. Instead of asking "When will this end?" try asking: "God, what are you forming in me through this?"

Stop fighting the season and start having a conversation with your Father. You might be surprised by the peace that arrives even before the symptoms leave.
